Why DOB? |
I noticed that a lot of the music sites out there had crappy top 10 lists of bands that I would never listen to. Myspace is great- but isn't here solely for indie music. SO- WTF- let's give it a shot.
...A year passes and we are still working to fix bugs and trying to find time to implement more features that will get good bands heard, good venues visited and the fans entertained.
Some guy at a show the other night commented how "something seemed sketchy" about DOB- like we are trying to 'pull one over' by giving out a sticker and offering another outlet for indie bands to be heard (for free). Let's back up here a bit and think. ...There's a reason this site isn't as spiffy as other sites- it's INDIE! I, nor the team working on development have been paid a dime, nor made a dime. The stickers you might've seen (in a few states) and the banners were paid for by myself. ...all directing people to check out your band, venue or label. Fishy? ...I like music. Maybe we won't end up with a million visitors a day- but I get to listen to cool bands that post up here without having to search around. If we do develop a following- I hope it pays off for the bands that work their asses off to make we the fans happy!
Remember- we are in the Alpha stage (pre-alpha IMO) of development. With support, we'll get better. At some point, hosting costs will make us seek advertisers- and it won't be for pecker pills or crap that we think the community will avoid. Ideally- we'd like to see banners for music shops, venues and music related products and services in general.
SO- 'Mr. Naysayer' ...take it for what it's worth. No drummers looking to crash your couch, no front man taking your girl, no corporate manager making you sign any profits over. If you have thoughts and opinions on what we could do for you- let us know in the forums or through a message. Don't be a ballbag and sign up with the username "thisSiteSucks". That helps nothing.
Keep the comments coming. So far, most have been really positive and we've gotten some good constructive feedback that we'll work on ASAP.

Quick question for music lovers |
...What do you think of the DOB concept?
What could be made easier?
How could we support you better?
...while we are just getting ready to go live, we have big plans for the future. Hey- don't we all!!??...DOB offers support to the indie band, the inde fan, the indie label and of course all the inde venues that support cool indie music. Let's face it- there is a lot of crap on the radio. Interweb technology has helped us so far, let's keep it going.
We need feedback. We need support. We'll beg for it if it means the bands here get appreaciated as they should. We need your help. Spread the word, let us know what doesn't work for you when setting up a free profile, ...do what it takes to try again if it didn't work the first time. We'll do what it takes to work out the bugs while we hear your comments. We are here for the indie artist(s) that make the world a better place.
As always- msg. me, or reply in the forums with issues and we'll work through them
Thanks for supporting indie bands. We look forward to serviing you- the indie band, fan, venue, label... and more.

So your in a band? ..and you want to be heard, loved, or maybe just have people show up in your dark corner to listen to you play. Who knows why you play? YOU DO! ....if you don't support indie artists or the indie music scene then there is no need to read on. ..and before you go- go ahead and remove D.O.B. from your MS friends list. Serious! -We are ONLY here for the indie music, bands, fans, venues and indie labels. ..we don't care if we have 200 or 20,000 myspace friends- as long as you are all here for the indie music scene. So there~ the ball is in your court.
BUT...
We DO think you will like DiscoverOurBand.com if you can get into:
-Discovering new bands and venues
-Finding a new venue to get your band heard
-Finding out what's going on in venues around different cities
-Sharing indie bands and venues
-promoting indie bands
-Sharing/watching indie band videos
-Exposing your band, venue or label to new fans.
-Viewing or contributing to the webs 'largest indie band photo album' (..that's only if you come and contribute your talent and love for indie music.)

Here's a great chance to get your stuff out there, Channel 18 out of SCC TV in White Bear lake is looking for local films to air on the new layout.

We are currently taking media to be aired between the hours of 9am and 9pm on Channel 18.
Of course since this is basic cable so must be appropriate so no violence, nudity or swearing ect.
What we are trying to focus on is arts and entertainment in the twin cites. So this would include but not limited to:
Independent films
Music Videos
Animations
Live music shows
Art programing
